There are three types of Licensing schemes
Mandatory HMO (Houses in Multiple Occupation) licensing | This will include homes shared by 5 or more people who form 2 or more households, where some or all tenants share some facilities. |
Additional HMO licensing | This will include homes shared by 3 or 4 people in 2 or more households, where some or all tenants share some facilities. Most Councils will also include Section 257 HMOs, (building which have been converted into self-contained flats, which do not comply to appropriate building regulations.) |
Selective licensing | This will include all privately rented properties in a specific area within certain boroughs (including Bexley, Brent, Ealing, Enfield, Hackney, Harrow, Havering, Islington, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and more) |
